The expedition takes you through the awe-inspiring Karakoram range, with breathtaking views of some of the world’s most prominent peaks.
Spantik Peak’s southeast ridge, known as the “Golden Pillar,” is the most common route for ascents. Spantik Peak Difficulty
Spantik Peak is known as one of the easier 7,000-meter peaks worldwide due to its non-technical nature. However, it is still a serious mountain and should not be underestimated. Located between the Shigar and Nagar valleys, Spantik is a perfect challenge for climbers looking to step into higher altitude climbing with intermediate experience. Alpinists consider Spantik’s difficulty as Grade 2, with moderate technical challenges but no absolute objective dangers.
Spantik Peak Difficulty – Camp Wise:
-
-
- Camp 1 (5,100m):
The trek from Base Camp to Camp 1 begins on grassy slopes, gradually transitioning into rocky ridges. The climb takes around 3 hours and is considered relatively straightforward for those with hiking experience, with no major technical difficulty.
- Camp 1 (5,100m):
-
- Camp 2 (5,650m):
From Camp 1 to Camp 2, the terrain shifts from rocks to snow, where climbers will need to put on crampons and use ropes to traverse through snowfields. Climbers will also need to navigate crevasses, making this portion more challenging. This trek can take 4-8 hours, depending on snow conditions and weather.
- Camp 2 (5,650m):
- Camp 3 (6,295m):
Camp 3 is located on a wide plateau offering breathtaking views of the Karakoram Range. The route from Camp 2 to Camp 3 involves steep slopes, with sections requiring fixed ropes to ensure safety during both ascent and descent. This is the most difficult part of the expedition, with steep 45-degree slopes and narrow ridges. Climbers will need to use a Jumar for secure ascension in the more difficult parts.
-
While Spantik is not an overly technical climb, climbers will need to be prepared for significant altitude, challenging snow conditions, and moderate technical sections that require the use of climbing gear like ropes, crampons, and ice axes.
